I have a notebook computer about to be delivered to my house, and I live in an area known for package thefts. But I can’t change the destination until after a delivery attempt has been made - maybe. So, rather than the tell them just to deliver to a local store, like I do with FedEx, I either have to:
1) risk having the package dropped at my door and potentially stolen before I can reroute
Or
2) wait for the undeliverable notice before I can tell them what to do regarding getting it delivered, including rerouting to an alternate drop location. Maybe.
Fuck you, UPS. I’m trying to help you get the package to a safe location without risk of theft, and get it to me in a reasonable amount of time at the same time. Risk it getting stolen or wait? Those are my only two options? No.

Hire an Uber to drive by your house and transport the laptop to your desired destination....

Send your stuff to your work address

The worst part is that Laptops are often shipped with just a shipping label on the laptop box, no plain box to try to hide what it is.

I would, but my current employer, a public transportation agency, doesn’t allow this :(

Too much money for a $27 item...

It’s used, so it’ll probably be in a plain brown box. That’s probably better, but not by much...

Send your stuff to that Thai restaurant you go to all the time. The girl behind the counter thinks you’re cute.

I have had luck signing up with my UPS and changing delivery before an attempt is made. I just have them send it to the UPS store, since it’s .25 miles away. I did have a problem trying to get them to change delivery of my Rolex, since the seller had to be notified before shipping was changed, but I was able to leave work and be there when it got delivered.

I really love it when the UPS driver logs the package is delivered to my “front door”, when in fact it is placed in my neighbors carport/shed which is a few hundred yards from my front door . when i call ups to tell them there was no package on my front door, their response is always “did you check with your neighbors?”

A friend of mine used to work next door to one of their sorting centers. He witnessed UPS workers tossing packages over the fence, presumably to be picked up later.

That’s better than my experience with FedEx this spring. I ordered a piece of jewelry for my wife, delivery to my home. Theft is NOT an issue there, so I figured
I could pre-authorize drop off or sign the slip they leave after an attempt, if it comes to that. This winter I pre-authorized
dropoff of a laptop that was worth about the same amount of money (UPS)
.
But no, a person MUST BE PRESENT, which isn’t possible. I called the distribution center and they said I could pick it up there between 6:00 and 6:30 pm. It’s 45 minutes away, each way, and I have my kids at that time - not to mention, it’s their bedtime so... nope. Can I change the delivery address? Nope, not allowed by the shipper in this case.
I said, can I refuse it and just re-order? They said 3 attempts had to be made first. WTF? So I called the company I ordered from, and THEY were able to change the delivery location to my work.
Next time... I’ll do that from the beginning. It’s *sort of* frowned upon, but this would be an OK exception.

There were three options on the website/app to change delivery, with two of them greyed out for unknown reasons. I could have the package left with a neighbor; should I chooose the guy that’s in the process of being evicted or should I go with the Section 8 place next door with the revolving tenant list - decisions, decisions...

That would be my first choice, but it’s not allowed. I work at a huge public transportation facility and it would probably take a day or two to get to me if it was allowed...

That sounds like when I was a bag smasher at an international airport, where the ‘Fragile’ sticker was not a warning but a challenge...

Probably the guy who is being evicted, he’ll probably try and squat or something.

Call them, and then when the entry level phone person says they can’t help you, ask to speak to a supervisor. Politely. They’ll put you on with one of them, and you politely ask for what you need.
I had to do that recently for an exhaust for my Supra, and it was resolved in about 5 minutes of phone time.

The shipper limited your options when they shipped the package. This just happened to me. Reposting:

Other than one time, I have had 0 issues changing delivery.

This. Signed up and have changed delivery locations mid-stream at least a couple of times.

I don’t know where you work, but I just get valuable items delivered to my office. Someone will sign for them and I just throw it in my car. Alternatively, can you get items like this delivered to a parent’s house in a better area or something?

They retired “What can brown do for you” almost a decade ago? What is their “ thing” now, a poop emoji?
